776 BC- The first Olympics games takes place.

630 BC- Cyrene is founded.

 

625 BC- Thales is born in Miletos.

 

600 BC- Greek coin currency is introduced.

 

569 BC- Pythagoras is born in Samos.

 

566 BC- Panathenaic Festivals established.

 

594 BC-Solon replaces the Draconian law in Athens and lays the foundation for Democracy.

 

546 BC- Pisistratos becomes tyrant of Athens.

 

527 BC- Pisistratos Dies. His sons become tyrants of Athens.

 

525 BC- Athens develops red-figure pottery.

 

510 BC- Alcmaeonid family and Spartans free Athens from tyranny.  Democracy is introduced in Athens.

 

508 BC- Democratic constitution is established in Athens.

 

499 BC- Ionian revolt.

 

490 BC- Athenians defeat Darius and his Persian army.

 

483 BC- Athens discovers silver mines near by.  Athens begins building naval fleet.

 

482 BC- Aristides ostracized

 

480 BC- Battle of Thermopylae.  The Persians burn the Acropolis.

 

479 BC- Battle of Plataea.  Greeks defeat the Persian army.

 

465 BC- The Helots revolt against Sparta in Messenia.

 

461-445 BC- The First Peloponnesian War.

 

458 BC- Aeschylus produces a trilogy of tragedies in Athens, Agamemnon, Libation Barers, Eumenides.

 

454 BC- The Delian league treasury is moved from Delos to Athens.

 

449 BC- The construction of the Acropolis and Parthenon begin in Athens.

 

447 BC- Greeks made the parthenon

 

446 BC- Athens and Sparta sign a thirty year peace treaty.

 

443 BC- Pericles is the leader of Athens during the Golden Age.

 

420 BC- The construction of the Temple of Athena Nike begins.

 

404 BC- Athens surrenders to Sparta and thirty tyrants rule Athens.

 

403 BC- Democracy is restored in Athens.

 

399 BC- Socrates is tried and executed for heresy and fraud of local youth.

 

380 BC- Plato establishes the Athens Academy.

 

359 BC- Philip II becomes king of Macedonia.

 

336 BC- Philip II is assassinated and Alexander the Great becomes king of Macedonia.

 

335 BC- Aristotle finds the Lyceum in Athens.
