Rome

700 BC- Rome is founded by Romulus and Remus. 

 

509 BC- The Roman Republic Begins.

 

450 BC- Laws of the twelve tables are adapted.

 

390 BC- The Gauls attempt to invade Rome.

 

380 BC- The once destroyed Severian wall is reconstructed.

 

367 BC- Plebeians are allowed to be consuls.

300 BC- Romans begin using arches for water channels and bridges.

264 BC- Rome controls the entire Italian peninsula.  The First Punic War,

 

236 BC- Roman General Scipio Africanus is born.

 

220 BC- Via Flaminia is constructed.

 

218 BC- The Second Punic War.

 

205 BC- Scipio is unanimously elected to the consulship.

 

190 BC- Rome declares war against Antiochus.

 

183 BC- Roman General Scipio dies.

168 BC- Rome conquers Greece after their victory in the Macedonian War.

 

149 BC- Third Punic War.

 

146 BC- Carthage is destroyed due to the Third Punic War.

 

142 BC- Hannibal dies by poison.

 

106 BC- Roman military and political leader Pompey is born.

 

102 BC- Roman military and political leader Julius Caesar is born.

 

71 BC- Spartacus is killed and his rebel army is destroyed.

 

63 BC- Roman Emperor Octavian is born.

 

55 BC Caesar repels an incursion into Gaul by the Germanic Usipetes and Tencteri.

 

49 BC- Caesar crosses the Rubicon in order to take Rome.

 

48 BC- Pompey dies.

 

44 BC- Julius Caesar is assassinated.

 

31 BC- Battle of Actium.

 

27 BC- Octavian becomes the first Roman emperor.

 

16 BC- Roman Germanic War.

 

13 BC- The Ara Pacis is constituted since Augustus secured his Empire.

 

AD 14- Octavian dies from illness.

 

AD 42- St Peter arrives in Rome.

 

AD 65- Christians are persecuted and killed by Roman emperor Nero.

 

AD 66- Jewish rebellion against Rome.

 

AD 67- St Peter is crucified in Rome.

 

AD 72- Work on the Colosseum begins.

 

AD 125- Emperor Hadrian hast the Pantheon reconstructed.

 

AD 212- All the inhabitants of the empire are granted citizenship.

 

AD 247- The first millennium of Rome is celebrated.

AD 270- The Aurelian wall is begun.

 

AD 284 - The Roman Empire is divided into Eastern and Western ones.

 

AD 312- Constantine the Great achieves winning the Roman Empire after the Battle of Milvian Bridge.

 

AD 320- The first St Peter’s Basilica is constructed.

 

AD 380 - The Christian emperor Theodosius makes Christianity the official religion of Rome, persecuting pagans and destroying temples.

 

AD 395 - Ravenna becomes the capital of the Western Roman Empire Constantinople, the capital of the east.

 

AD 410 - Rome is sacked by the Goths.

 

AD 422 - The Church of Santa Sabina is founded.

 

AD 455 - Rome is even more destructively sacked by the Vandals (thus the word vandalism was coined).

 

 AD 476- The Western Roman empire collapses on the Medieval Ages begin.
